About winery

Sara Fowler joined Peju as the Winemaker in 2006, bringing a wealth of knowledge and creativity into the cellar. She got her start in the wine industry at well renowned Kendall-Jackson Winery, and continued with Franciscan and Mt. Veeder Wineries. As the keystone of Peju's wine team, Sara's commitment to excellence in the vineyard and in the cellar is extraordinary. She was voted Best Local Winemaker in Napa Valley Life Magazine in 2016 and 2017.

The purchase of additional vineyards followed over the years including; Oak Knoll, Wappo and Presphone Estates, creating unique “Estate Owned” Napa Valley wines.

Premium craft wines from a family-run winery in Sonoma County. The owner studied winemaking at UC Davis and also studied wine aromas. Her study contributed to the wine aroma wheels. Please enjoy this award-winning fragrant Bordeaux blend made carefully with passion by fragrance experts.

Richly concentrated, dark aromatics of wild blackberry, blueberry and mocha-laced oak followed by dark plum, black cherry, vanilla and chocolate. Supple tannins stay in the background complimenting the layered flavors. We recommend decanting 30-60 minutes before enjoying.

Intense blackberry aromas blend with traces of vanillin oak and leather, yet give little indication of the opulent treat that follows. The creamy, luscious entry fills the palate with flavors of ripe dark berries, cherry, plum, and coffee. As the wine reveals its layers, traces of dark cocoa, espresso, lavender, sage, and spice notes appear. In the lingering finish find hints of hazelnut and mocha. Complex and expansive, this Petit Verdot delivers a full measure of satisfaction and more. Alc. 14.4%

Already slowed by El Niño’s winter flooding, the growing season of 1998 was the coolest Opus One has seen since 1991. With foggy mornings and moderate temperatures recorded during summer, the season extended into late October, promoting slow ripening and a very long “hang time” for Opus One’s grapes. Excellent weather in September and October made for an orderly harvest of Opus One’s five classic Bordeaux varietals.

Supple and lush, the 1998 Opus One shows an opaque purple color and intense aromas of blackberries, vanilla, roasted espresso and caramel. The wine offers a resilient middle body, with seamless texture, sweet tannins, and a long, persistent finish.
