The warm and inviting aroma of praline, plum, and berry combine with the essence of sea spray which is characteristic of the fruit's influence from the Pacific Ocean. On the palate the wine is fruit forward and complex with hints of fig and dried fruit. It is a beautiful wine that pair well with food and stands strong on its own.

THE VINEYARD:

Maritime is a proprietary name for the very best Pinot Noir from the vintage. The 2013 Maritime Pinot Noir is predominantly from two vineyards located just miles from the Pacific Ocean. This vintage also includes lots of Marimar Estate Vineyard and Saltonstall Vineyard. Combined, the vineyards are planted with Dijon clones 115, 667 and 777.

THE WINEMAKING:

The primary processes include cold soaking for 6-8 days in stainless steel followed by fermentation to 14-16 brix then transfer to barrel and fermented to dryness. Hands on from start to finish selecting the finest barrels before bottling for this reserve Pinot Noir.

Premium craft wines from a family-run winery in Sonoma County. The owner studied winemaking at UC Davis and also studied wine aromas. Her study contributed to the wine aroma wheels. Please enjoy this award-winning fragrant Bordeaux blend made carefully with passion by fragrance experts.

Richly concentrated, dark aromatics of wild blackberry, blueberry and mocha-laced oak followed by dark plum, black cherry, vanilla and chocolate. Supple tannins stay in the background complimenting the layered flavors. We recommend decanting 30-60 minutes before enjoying.

Already slowed by El Niño’s winter flooding, the growing season of 1998 was the coolest Opus One has seen since 1991. With foggy mornings and moderate temperatures recorded during summer, the season extended into late October, promoting slow ripening and a very long “hang time” for Opus One’s grapes. Excellent weather in September and October made for an orderly harvest of Opus One’s five classic Bordeaux varietals.

Supple and lush, the 1998 Opus One shows an opaque purple color and intense aromas of blackberries, vanilla, roasted espresso and caramel. The wine offers a resilient middle body, with seamless texture, sweet tannins, and a long, persistent finish.
